Kefalonia or Cephalonia, is an island of the Ionian Sea and belongs to the Ionian Islands. It is the sixth largest island in Greece after Crete, Evia, Lesbos, Rhodes and Chios. The island has an area of approximately 773 sq. Km. and there are approximately 35,801 inhabitants. A large part of the area occupies the Aenos mountain range, designated as National Park
The Kefalonia coastline forms many bays and capes. The most famous bays are Sami, Myrtos, Lourda, Athera, Fiskardo, Livadi, Argostoli, also known as Kutabo. Some of the major capes are Munda, Capra, Sarakiniko, Mytikas, Kentri, Skiza and others. The coasts are generally rocky and steep towards the Ionian Sea, while they have milder formations towards the eastern side. Of particular interest are the caves of the island, such as Melissani, Agalaki, Agion Theodoroi, Zervati, Drogarati Cave, Sakkou Cave etc.
